The video inserted above "Life is Born" from the well-known ski adventure film "All I Can" by Sherpa Cinemas highlights the connectedness and evolution of life captured through a fast paced and stunning cinematographic experience. To me, this film highlights the importance of staying int he moment and experiencing life to the fullest, which is what I strive to both personally and profession. I hope to inspire and motivate my students to gain this perspective and insight both inside and outside of school.
Teaching Philosophy Overview
My teaching philosophy takes form not only in physical activities and adventure-based interests, but from a holistic approach, which encompasses the whole individual (e.g. Physical, Emotional, Mental & Spiritual). It is important to recognize consider and incorporate a holistic perspective when observing students as individuals, in terms of their cultural heritage, background, strengths and weaknesses and personal interests.
Along with an individual level self-confidence, motivation and physical engagement, it is crucial to take into account the whole individual and not simply what we observe on the exterior. Connecting with students and viewing them from a whole-hearted lens has the ability to create a positive, inclusive compassionate classroom environment regardless of your geographical location.
Through new and challenging physical environments, students’ learning, personal growth and self-confidence will increase, evolve and perhaps lead to new experiences and habits outside the classroom and in their post-secondary lives.
My teaching philosophy is based on one simple concept – I strongly believe that students, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, ability, cultural background or socio-economic status have the right and the freedom to an educational experience that is empowering, one that builds self-confidence and success: An education experience that includes the mind and the body. And this is what I want to be a part of.
